Friday is for COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!! | Kernkraft 400

Posted in friday is for on September 3rd, 2010 by Kris.G

College football starts this weekend!! So pumped for the season. And being a Penn State alum, I still come back to many of their home games. One of the staple songs of Beaver Stadium is Zombie Nation. Getting 110,000 people to bounce in their seats creating the possibility of a structural damage after a huge play with all the noise is unlike any other football experience you can have.

WE ARE!

Friday is for… Vacation!!! | Petey Pablo

Posted in friday is for on August 13th, 2010 by Kris.G

So I’m heading down to Myrtle Beach tonight at 4AM for a week of vacation. Sorta. I’m actually staying just outside Myrtle Beach in NC because it’s half the price. Technicalities.  However, in a small way, I kinda hope my NC experience is similar to that of Petey Pablo so I can take my shirt off and twist it round my head. Spin it like a helicopter. O yeah and by the way…

Who am I? KRIS.G MOTHER F***ER!

Friday is for… Partying | DJ Deebin

Posted in friday is for, mashup on August 6th, 2010 by Kris.G

Wow, I’ve posted a lot of mashups this week. And I don’t care at all. This is another one of those mashes that blurs the line between mashup and DJ set. I don’t care what you want to call it. I just want you to go out and have a good time and shake ya ass; watch ya self. Deebin put together over a 4 and half minutes of a solid bass pumping mix that I’d be more than happy to hear in a club. And it’s not just another excerpt from something longer. It’s got its own solid rise and fall. For me it gets really good around 1:20. Check out more of his work on Soundcloud.

O whatever to all this music talk mumbo jumbo. Feel it. Move it. Go out and have a good time on this Friday night! I know I am.

I was out till 2AM last night and had work at 7:45 this morning. Needless to say, it’s time to crash. I leave you to begin your weekend with this: a remix of Desert Song by Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros. I think it now has a Radiohead feel. Your thoughts? (Yeah, short and sweet so now I can nap before heading our again tonight)

Friday is for… Originals | La Roux and Mike Posner

Posted in friday is for on July 9th, 2010 by Kris.G

Sometimes there are so many remixes of a song out there that it’s nice to remember the original work that they were crafted on. From the Hyper Crush remix of Bulletproof to the Gigamesh remix of Cooler Than Me, the internet is flooded with these. I know the Gigamesh remix is an official one released on Posner’s mixtape but sometimes I just like the original that much better. Basically, all I’m saying is, no matter how good a remix can be, don’t forget about what it was crafted on.

Friday is for… Remixes | Trey Songz

Posted in friday is for, remix on July 2nd, 2010 by Kris.G

Sometimes a remix can make a song I really don’t like bearable. I guess what I mean is I really really do not like Trey Songz song “Say Aah.” However, with this Twerkshop remix, it’s so much more bearable. I might even say I like it… Ha. But in all seriousness, I do enjoy this reworking of the song and it’s perfect for the start of the weekend.

Check out more of Twerkshop’s work here.

Friday is for… Remixes | B.O.B

Posted in friday is for, remix on June 25th, 2010 by Kris.G

So I know the original version of this song has both a really big base of fans and really a big base haters. I, however, am very much a fan. And, to be honest, so are a lot of you considering just how well my first post of it did on HypeM. Anyway, here’s a remix that was sent to me somewhat recently and I really like it. It doesn’t take away from the song. It just adds enough to play it in a club, or at a party. I gotta say, I totally dig it. I know some of you out there aren’t going to like it and that’s fine, but next time anyone comes to my parties, this will definitely be on the playlist.

Friday is for… Mashups | Misc

Posted in friday is for, mashup on June 18th, 2010 by Kris.G

Alright e’rybody. I decided to make a couple selections of mashups that I’ve found throughout the week. So here are three mashups for you for the weekend. Don’t know if I’ll get around to a post tomorrow because I’m going away for the weekend so just enjoy these instead.

First mashup is from DJZJ and was sent to me on soundcloud. It mashes Mike Posner and Flo Rida. It’s got a decent build and beat and I enjoy having it on in the background.

DJZJ – Rounder Than Me (Mike Posner vs. Flo Rida) [YSI]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Next up is one of favorite new mashup artists, Mochi Beats. I was talking to him about this mashup and said that I was kinda done with Gaga but there are still plenty of people out there who love her so I’m giving it a chance. Not to mention, it’s a nice use of Lauper and the Three 6 Mafia. You need to check out more of his stuff.

Mochi Beats – Time after Romance (Lady Gaga + Cyndi Lauper + Three 6 Mafia) [YSI]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Finally is one I found on Pigeons and Planes and I really dug it (apparently so did you based on HypeM performance). There’s something about Andre 3000′s voice that always draws me in. O yeah and it’s a fun mash as a whole. This one is from Skratch Bastid.

Crystal Castles & Outkast & Raekwon – Skewed Empathy (Skratch Bastid Mix) [YSI]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Friday is for… Remixes | Hoodie Allen

Posted in friday is for, remix on June 11th, 2010 by Kris.G

So yeah, I’ve been on bit of a Hoodie Allen binge lately. And for good reason: Hoodie Allen is killing it! Anyway, here is a remix of, well… a Mike Posner song? No, wait, an ELO song? Mike Posner remixing ELO? Or maybe covering ELO?

Uh, I think this can be counted as a Hoodie Allen remix to a Mike Posner song that samples, and is the same name as, an Electric Light Orchestra song. Yeah, that sounds like the most accurate description.

It’s easy lose track of the evolution of a song. Just look at yesterday’s post. Also be sure to check out more Hoodie Allen here.

Hoodie Allen and Mike Posner – Evil Woman (Remix ft. ELO) [YSI]

Friday is for… Covers | Saul Williams and Fatboy Slim

Posted in cover, friday is for on June 4th, 2010 by Kris.G

So this is not the most likely pairing of artists for a single post but I really do enjoy both of these covers, possibly more than the originals. When Saul Williams paired with NIN’s Trent Reznor to release his last album, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!, it was absolutely fantastic. It expressed a new side of Saul and allowed his music to reach more of the mainstream. With the help of his cover of “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” he even began to reach out to the alt rock fans. Fatboy Slim’s cover of the Steve Miller Band’s “The Joker” is just one of the covers that I feel breathed a little new life into the song. It wasn’t a full reinterpretation. It was just a little reintroduction to the world of an already great song.

Saul Williams – Sunday Bloody Sunday [YSI]
