Two for Tuesday | VV Brown

Posted in remix, two for tuesday on November 30th, 2010 by Kris.G

I actually never even heard of VV Brown until Hoodie Allen sampled her song “Shark in the Water” for his song “Swimming with Sharks.” Even after hearing that, I still didn’t really look into her any further. It wasn’t until I received a remix of one of her tracks today from Rieces Pieces. And I’m happy I listened!

VV’s sound is something like the past meets the present. She has so much soul and I love listening. Rieces Pieces is a producer I’ve featured before, and I might even like this remix better than his last that I posted. Excellent!

TISM – Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me

Posted in comedy on November 29th, 2010 by Kris.G

Well another weekend has come and gone and once again I missed a couple days of posting. The good news is that my weekend obligations are pretty much over so I should be posting much more regularly. Now I just need more time in my life to scour the internet in search of new music that I like.

However instead of anything new today, here’s an old internet hit. It’s TISM’s “Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me.” This damn rabbit always cracks me up. Aside from this song, I don’t know if TISM has ever really taken off anywhere. They’re from Australia and went on indefinite hiatus in 2004. Regardless, enjoy this song and it’s video below. And it’s in high def!

On a side note, the keyboardist rabbit is wearing a mask and I didn’t understand why for a long time. Then I saw some pics of the band and realized they all perform in masks which I guess explains that.

So what’s your number…

Happy Thanksgiving

Posted in Uncategorized on November 25th, 2010 by Kris.G

The song choice today was just too obvious (for those of us in the US). Quite simply, here’s Adam Sandler’s “Thanksgiving Song.”

Go eat turkey, watch some football, and get ready for a day of spending too much money tomorrow.

Yael Naim – New Soul

Posted in Uncategorized on November 24th, 2010 by Kris.G

Super short post today. It’s the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The biggest drinking night of the year! Go out and have a good time. Be safe.

I’ll be at the Foxy Shazam show tonight in NYC! I’m so excited to see them live!

In keeping with the jovial atmosphere that tonight should bring, here’s a  song from Yael Naim that really just makes me smile.

Two for Tuesday | Saul Williams

Posted in two for tuesday on November 23rd, 2010 by Kris.G

I can still remember vividly the first time I was introduced to Saul Williams as an artist. I was in a public speaking class the summer after my freshman year of college and had one of the best professors in my college career. He played a documentary for us called “The N-Word.” In one part of documentary, Saul Williams performed his poem “Sha-clack-clack.” I was absolutely blown away. I immediately searched for as much as I could find by Saul. He’s such an amazing poet and is what the face of rap needs right out front. He’s smart and witty and has a message.

Saul has written 4 books (all of which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed) and has released 6 album, 4 of which were widely available. There are also plans for a new Saul Williams album, Volcanic Sunlight, in 2011. You can be sure that I’ll be buying that album the day it’s released and seeing him live once again when he tours.

Warning: Saul Williams may be too intelligent to understand upon first listening. Do yourself a favor and look up the lyrics and try to understand. It’s worth it.

Neon Trees – Animal

Posted in Uncategorized on November 22nd, 2010 by Kris.G

I had real crappy day at work and on the way home, nothing on the radio even seemed to cheer me up which is weird because there’s normally something that I enjoy being played. After I ran all my errands and did the things I had to do, I was coming down the street close to my house and something finally cheered me up. A song came on that I “didn’t know” but was able to sing along to. I guess I did know the song. I just didn’t know the name of it or who sang it. Soundhound to the rescue. I IDed the song and it was Animal by Neon Trees. I know nothing about this band except that I really like this song for one reason or another.

Usually I would take some time to actually look up info on the band but I’m still a little frustrated from work so I haven’t looked into them any further. Feel free to toss some info my way. In the meantime, enjoy.

Cee-Lo Green – Satisfied

Posted in Uncategorized on November 21st, 2010 by Kris.G

Wow, I missed three days of posting… Woops. Been kinda busy. But now it’s Sunday afternoon and I was trying to find a song that kinda matched my mood. Good thing I was listening to The Lady Killer, Cee-Lo’s new album. Yes, I know Cee-Lo has been posted everywhere here to the farthest reached on the internet. And yes I may have posted a bit too much of him myself… But I don’t care.

Over the past two weeks since the release of the album, I’ve listened to it a number of times and for as fun as “Fuck You” is and how big of a hit it became, it’s actually not my favorite song on the album. My favorite song is actually “Satisfied.” There’s something about that Chicago-esque brass intro that just draws me in every time. Mixed with Green’s vocals makes this track so deadly.

And yeah, this is perfect for this nice sunny Sunday. I am satisfied.

Cee-Lo Green – Satisfied [YSI]

P.S. – Once again kinda got screwed on Wed by Hype Machine so check out my Daft Punk post. It’s kinda cool.

Daft Punk – Technologic

Posted in Uncategorized on November 17th, 2010 by Kris.G

I was bored last night and just surfing the internet. As is often the case when I’m bored and surfing, I ended up on the Daft Punk Console for awhile. I started going through all the sounds for Technologic and realized I hadn’t listened to it in quite a while. And I’ve always enjoyed it. So I decided to post it today.

Make sure to check out the Daft Punk Console. There’s both “Technologic” and “Harder Better Faster Stronger.”

Two for Tuesday | Dicks!

Posted in two for tuesday on November 16th, 2010 by Kris.G

No, I am not talking about people named Richard… There’s always been an infatuation with penises (or peni as I like to pluralize it), especially by men. There’s no penis envy among women. It’s all in the guys’ heads. Well, apparently, this infatuation can sell music, unfortunately…

So here are two songs all about peni. One from the male perspective with the great Mickey Avalon and one from the female perspective with the great Riskay. On a side note, “great” is used extremely loosely in that sentence, so loose that I may call in an antonym. It’s Mickey’s “My Dick” and Riskay’s “Smell Yo Dick.” O yeah, I’m serious about these titles if you haven’t heard of these songs. Sounds like a mashup just asking to be made… Oh and my favorite line (meaning it makes me laugh A LOT) comes from the male verse in Riskay’s song:

Smell my dick?
Wait a minute. Hold up.
See that how a bitch
Get her eye swolled up.

Mickey Avalon – My Dick [YSI]

Riskay – Smell Yo Dick [YSI]

P.S. – My dick goes to yoga. You’re dick… fruit roll up?

Girl Talk – All Day

Posted in mashup, new release on November 15th, 2010 by Kris.G

I don’t think there was any question what artist I’d be posting today. As soon as I saw that Girl Talk has released his new album, it was going to be a song from that album. It just became a question of which song I was going to choose off the album…

Gregg Gillis has done it again and possibly with his best album to date. The new album is called “All Day” and it’s damn good! Not unlike his other work, it was crafted to be one long mix/track. However, he broke it down into tracks for easier navigation. Regardless, this album samples over 370 songs and is over 70 minutes long, and its just so fun. Here’s a taste of the album below with track number 2 called “Let It Out.”

Get the entire album for free here.

Girl Talk – Let It Out [YSI]

Streaming currently unavailable for some songs. Stream all BTV songs on Hype Machine here.
